Dorothée de Monfreid
Dorothée de Monfreid lives and works in Paris. She graduated from the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs de Paris, where she studied graphic design. She has written and/or illustrated 52 books, published by such major publishing houses as l’Ecole des Loisirs, Gallimard, Helium and Casterman. She has been translated in 21 languages. Among her numerous artistic collaborations there are regular contributions to Mon lapin Quotidien (an independent quarterly newspaper), L’Atelier Mastodonte in Spirou Magazine, and a monthly illustration of Les P’tits Philos in Pomme d’Api (Bayard Presse, for young children). She has also co-founded the comics magazine Capsule Cosmique (Milan Presse). Since 2017, her weekly comic strip Ada & Rosie has been capturing the everyday life of a Parisian family. It is released on the website of Libération, a major French daily newspaper. Her greatly versatile stories and illustrations are characterised by a sense of humour verging on the burlesque, as well as by acute insights into how we live today.
For this year’s edition of the South Ken Kids Festival, she is taking part in Live Event: Kind by Axel Scheffler and Guests and will be running virtual workshops with schools as part of our Outreach programme.
