Schools
The South Ken Kids Festival has at heart to reach out to schools across London and beyond and gives schools, that missed the online performance of Cat in (re) Boots by Exchange Theatre, the opportunity to stream it for the class room.
No need to introduce Charles Perrault’s Puss in Boots? A cunning joker and a thief, the malicious cat is one of the children and grown-ups most beloved (anti)heroes! But who is he really? Exchange Theatre brings you a fantastic retelling of the story where the master trickster cat breaks down all barriers of class and origins and shows a strong sense of kindness and justice through the energy of dance. A wonderful adaptation and a hilarious show revisiting a classical tale in literature!
Company notes:
“In these times, producing a children show in 2020, after #BLM and after #METOO, bears a responsibility to also raise children’s awareness to contemporary questions: with themes of Kindness, Fraternity and Diversity, our anti-racist version reclaims Puss in Boots for what he really is: all he does is out of generosity and justice and the story of the marquis de Carabas is one of the best models of social mobility. Our cat breaks down all barriers of class and origins. Seen as a cunning joker and a thief, Puss in Boots is one of the most beloved heroes for the children as the adults! He makes his master’s fortune by playing tricks on everyone, even the King, but are they tricks or justice?
Our version interrogates deep ideas for teenagers but also with lightness and humour for the youngest. Like a Pixar movie it has several levels of understanding, and it is made for all ages and even relevant for adults currently confronted with the questioning of systemic bias. These questions are of the essence of the work to be done all over the world to CHANGE it and to make it better, and are at the heart of our show! In the midst of a world pandemic, it requires even more to reinvent ourselves with what we do: get together around art, learn to CHANGE and ask ourselves the right questions first.”
